About This Site
This pathfinder was created in the spring of 2010 for an Electronic Materials for Youth class taught by Dr. Annette Lamb through the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science. The creator, Elizabeth, oversaw American Girl programming at a public library for a year or so, and she and her three younger sisters have fond memories of the American Girl dolls and books from when they were growing up. She thought it would be fun to help guide others to fun and informational resources related to Molly, World War II, and life in the early 1940s through a pathfinder. While the print materials from the American Girl Company help girls begin to understand another time and way of life, the Internet provides ready access to numerous photographs, stories, videos, images, information, and interactive activities that directly relate to what is highlighted in the Molly books and further bring this time period to life through sight and sound.
This pathfinder was created with a public library audience in mind, and is specifically geared for those who enjoy and appreciate the American Girl materials (roughly for those aged seven to twelve), though those older and younger may find parts of this website of interest too.
Resources were selected with the following criteria in mind
